In 2009, the journal CyberPsychology & Behavior published a study conducted by psychologists at the University of Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom.
The study analyzed 120 Myspace blogs for content such as emoticon use, emotional tone, intended purpose, and requests for feedback.
The authors of the study found that “Happy” was the most frequently used Myspace emoticon and most blogs were classified as having a positive rather than negative tone. They also found that those most likely to ask for feedback were between the ages of 18 and 29. Interestingly, the authors found no significant differences between male and female blogs, although there were differences found between age groups.
